What is the function of a manual resuscitator?
A manual resuscitator bag is used to provide air by hand, if your patient is not breathing. The bag can also be used to give large breaths after suctioning, a trach change or when a ventilator circuit is being changed. The bag must always be near your patient in case of an emergency.

How do you use a portable resuscitator?
To use for resuscitation, the caregiver simply presses the button on the demand valve, to inflate the lungs. When the button is released, the gases are expelled from the lungs through the exhalation (non-rebreathing) valve. For the demand function, the patient simply needs to hold the mask to his mouth and breathe.
